Description
2W of white LED light will light up a desktop or corner of a room. Plus, rugged, portable 12V power for a low-powered notebook computer. With many notebook computers you can run all day, every day with this system. It is designed for translators to use in remote villages running entirely on solar power.
Features three 1.8-lb LFP lithium batteries equivalent to a 50-lb deep cycle AGM, but with a much longer lifetime. Expected lifetime is 5 years in heavy use. The Villager-III can be taken on airlines in your checked baggage or carry-ons, or shipped worldwide by DHL. However, some airlines are nervous about lithium batteries and requiring them to be in your cabin luggage, or they may even ban them. Therefore we recommend you have us ship these by DHL to your overseas location.
12.8-V output on dual cigarette lighter sockets. 12 amps maximum combined output = 153 watts. However, in normal use your average loads should be closer to 10 watts or your run time will be very short.
You will need a 12-V DC “Car adapter” made specifically for your computer, or for some computers this universal dc-dc converter with multiple tips will work. Contact us for help locating the correct tip or converter for your computer or other equipment.
Essential Solar Panels and Cables are Sold Separately!
To complete your system you will need a solar panel rated 12 V and between 40 watts and 180 watts, and a cable to connect to the panel. The Villager-III uses the Xantrex C12 charge controller.
The recommended panel is our SunPower 100 W lightweight & semi-flexible kit, which includes 33 ft of cabling.
We also have a few Unisolar roll-up 68-W panels. See this post for other suitable panel options to use with your Villager III.
Will this meet my needs? Take a Test Drive!
Take the Villager-III for an Online Test Drive!
Our Test Drive tool will simulate the weather conditions and your equipment loads for one week and tell you if you’ll run out of power! Detailed instructions for the Test Drive are here.
