Description
Recommended use(s): This 12 V nominal solar panel has your choice of connectors on the end of ~2 ft long cables for use in building your own solar power system. Two or three of these panels can be wired in parallel to power a Villager-III power bank. Choose the MC4 connectors and use a standard Villager power cable and one or two MC4 Splitter pairs.
One of these panels can be used with a Half-Pint system. Choose the XT60 connector for use with our Half-Pint Power Bank
Advantages of this product: The 50 W panel (not just the cells) is made by Sunpower and is excellent quality. These panels are small in size for the number of watts produced – plus they are very thin, lightweight and rugged. They are completely weatherproof and can be permanently mounted outdoors, but are also great for portable use. This 50 W panel might fit inside a extra large suitcase. 22″ x 25.7″ x 0.1″ (559 mm x 653 mm x 2 mm) plus 0.5″ (12 mm) thickness for wire connectors. Panels weigh 2.6 lbs. (1.2 kg)
The solar cells are embedded in 2.2-mm thick plastic which allows the panels to flex a bit, though they cannot be rolled or folded. Each panel has four grommets for mounting.
Additional notes: Like any solar panel, you must use a charge controller to prevent this solar panel from overcharging your batteries. All of our packaged power systems have the charge controller already built in.
