The Victron BatteryProtect is a Low Voltage Disconnect

The BatteryProtect disconnects the battery from loads before it is completely discharged (which would damage the battery).

The BatteryProtect is a uni-directional device. It can only deal with current in one direction, so it can’t be used with an inverter-charger system where the inverter is sometimes charging the battery and other times discharging it through the same cable.

If you have a separate A.C. battery charger or solar charge controller they connect directly to the battery, and the Victron BatteryProtect is inserted between the battery and inverter or other loads.

Various Models

Victron makes three BatteryProtect models which work on both 12V and 24V systems and have several preset battery disconnect voltages you can configure manually. They are rated for 65A, 100A and 220A continuous current. They also make a BatteryProtect model for 48V systems that is rated for up to 100A continuous load current. They can be controlled with a remote relay or switch if desired.

Prices start at about $36 for the 65A version.

There are also identical “Smart Batteryprotect” models with Bluetooth built in for easy configuration and monitoring using your smartphone or laptop.
