Description

The 30 DC power hub is the heart of a versatile solar power system. It has a 30 amp MPPT charge controller and can use solar panels rated over 400W.

It will arrive configured for 12V batteries, but using the VictronConnect app on your phone you can reconfigure the charge controller and Victron “BatteryProtect” devices for 24V batteries. With a 24V setup you can effectively use over 800W of solar panels and twice the battery capacity of a 12V system.

The power hub come pre-assembled, but without solar panels or battery. Purchase solar panels and batteries locally to complete your system. Contact us for a price quote if you’d like us to purchase solar panels or batteries and ship them to you.

Terminals:  Solar panels connect via screw terminals which accept up to 2AWG sized wires. Batteries connect to the included 6ft long cables with 5/16 eye terminals. DC output is via lever-lock connectors which can accept 8 pairs of up to 10AWG wires for your lights and other loads.

The recommended configuration is to use a solar panel array rated 400W or more. You can use up to four “12V” solar panels in series, or two 72 cell (24v) solar panels in series. When purchasing solar panels, note that the panel array has to remain under 100VOC (open circuit voltage), and 30A short circuit current (ISC).

Recommended batteries are either two 12V 100Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) or four 12V 100Ah AGM batteries hooked up in parallel. You power hub will be shipped programmed for 12V AGM batteries, instructions for changing to LFP or 24V batteries are in the user’s manual.

When configured for AGM batteries, the DC Power hub protects your batteries by automatically disconnecting when the battery is about 50% depleted. Therefore the usable capacity of any AGM battery you connect is approximately one-half it’s rating. (See our self-help article on sizing batteries for why that is.) When configured for LFP batteries, usable capacity will be about 90% of the rating on the batteries.

Recommended use(s): This is a versatile DC power system for 12V LED lighting and powering 12V fans or laptop computers using “car adapters.” You can also add small inverters rated 300W or less to generate some AC for small devices.
