Description
What this product does: For use in places where ac power is unavailable, the Solar Power Hub is used with 12-V, deep cycle batteries, and “12-V” solar panels, sold separately, as the heart of a small solar power workstation for powering desktop and laptop computers.
Recommended use(s): Power one or two laptop computers plus an inkjet printer and some LED or fluorescent lights. The pure sine wave output is suitable for any device under 300 W, however, under normal working conditions, the load should be ~170 W or less.
Any 12v lead acid battery bank of 100-Ah to 500-Ah will work with the Solar Power Hub, but “deep cycle” batteries will last longer and are worth the extra cost. An ordinary car battery will need to be replaced in less than a year. A 100-Ah AGM battery will power a laptop computer and a small fluorescent light for over five hours. GTIS recommends Outback NC AGM batteries as the most cost effective due to their extraordinary cycle life. The 2400Wh battery option includes one 200-Ah Outback NC battery with cabling, the 4800Wh option includes 2 of the same batteries, to be wired in parallel.
The Power hub protects your batteries by automatically disconnecting when the battery is halfway depleted. Therefore the usable capacity of any AGM or lead-acid battery you connect is approximately one-half it’s rating. Lithium Batteries will supply about 90% of their rated capacity.
Use multiple “12-V” solar panels in parallel with a total power output of 200 W to 345 W to keep the batteries charged. GTIS can help you calculate the exact number and size of solar panels and batteries you will need. The Solar Power Hub uses the SunSaver-20L charge controller.
