Description

What this product does: The Morningstar SunGuard charge controller is a voltage regulator that keeps your batteries from being over charged by your solar panels. Most “12-volt” panels put out about 16 V to 20 volts, but “12-volt” batteries require 14 V to 14.5 V to become fully charged, so without regulation the batteries will be damaged from overcharging.

Recommended use(s): This charge controller is used in the Half-Pint Power Bank.

Advantages of this product: The SunGuard is a simple, small, single module 4.5-A, 12-V, PWM (pulse width modulation) charge controller. There are no indicators lights or adjustments to set. It is fully encapsulated in epoxy potting with ~8-inch wire leads.

Disadvantages of this product: The SunGuard does not control the load in any way. There is no low voltage disconnect (LVD) to keep the load from discharging your batteries completely.
